I'm sorry I can't see it. There's nothing like a well-made weapon--the perfect melding of beauty and danger. (But then, I've always found dangerous things to be especially beautiful in themselves.)
I would love to watch you and Thace spar, Felix--it's already a treat to watch you two fight at the Club, but to see you both with blades in hand... my god, I'm smiling just to think of it.
[Not to mention that a good fight always put Thace in the very best kind of mood.]
[Felix isn't sure what's so 'beautiful' about dangerous things, but the phrasing puts him in mind of something Sylvain might say, except Sylvain wouldn't be talking about weapons but about Felix and that's a thought he just sort of tucks away for some other time.]
I look forward to it as well. it has been far too long since I've wielded a real blade. my aegislash was too eager to evolve. and obviously now he's too big. I believe thace was in some sort of military too? I'm eager to see sword techniques from another world.
the navy, I see. I was never one for large scale strategy but claude is probably the best strategist on our continent.
[Felix doesn't know enough about Steven's world to think it strange that he has a monarch of some kind. However, Steven does mention something he's never heard of...]
And I suppose guns wouldn't be a thing in your world, given the relative technology level. Hm. You know how people use slings to launch stone or metal bullets at people? Well, a gun is a ranged weapon made out of metal with a trigger like a crossbow or ballista, where a small explosion inside the gun caused by black powder (the thing that in larger quantities makes fireworks explode) launches a metal bullet forward at very high speeds, causing them to hit hard enough to make holes in people.
More or less anyway. They take a while to learn how to use relatively safely, of course, because you've got a a device that contains a small, localized explosion in your hand and there's something of a 'kick' when you set it off. But guns are very effective, very lethal, and I am now very good at firing them.
ah. like a handheld cannon. intriguing. I prefer close combat to ranged but I've studied the bow and it can be useful. I imagine a gun would simplify hunting as well.
Exactly like a small, handheld canon, yes. And while I also prefer close combat when I can, sometimes I don't have that option and my gun is useful then. And unlike bows, you can use them fairly easily in close combat as well. Well, handguns anyway.
They're *very* useful for hunting. Where I come from, long-barreled guns are the main weapon used for hunting. My own gun is a handgun, but my friend back home that I hunt with has a few shotguns and rifles.
I see. I would have liked to try my hand at such a weapon. going into the wild to catch pokemon is fine but it doesn't have the same calming effect that a good hunt does.
No, it doesn't and I really do miss it, a little. [Both kinds of hunts, honestly. Tending the Autumn Court's barrow and hunting the Hedge to feed friends. The second happened more often, the first was more of a challenge.] And I know Thace regrets that we can't go on one together—I understand hunting was an important part of his people's culture, pre-spaceflight.
What did you hunt with back home? I can't think that swords would be very useful in hunting for food. Spears? Bows? (Thace says the traditional way for his people was with tooth and claw, but Galra *have* actual claws and nice, respectable fangs like that.)

Me, I was never in the military. I just wielded my blades and gun at the request of my monarch.
